Learn more about the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Gold Medal Plants for 2023.

Have you been looking to add a new tree, shrub, vine, or perennial plant to your garden? Check out the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Gold Medal Plant list for inspiration! Gold Medal Plants are selected for their ease of cultivation, multiple seasons of interest, commercial availability, appropriateness for the Mid-Atlantic region, and value to wildlife. PHS started the program in 1979 and annually convenes nursery owners, horticulturists, expert gardeners, and professional growers to conduct a review of both newly available and classic species and cultivars, selecting the best performing and most beautiful for inclusion in the Gold Medal Plant program.

Holly Days Nursery carries more than 60% of the 157 plants on the list. We have 21 perennials, 36 shrubs, 34 trees and 2 vines on the Gold Medal Plant list. Click the link here to see the full list of plants at Holly Days Nursery & Garden Center.

Chicago Lustre Viburnum blooms in late May – early June with white flower clusters followed by blue-black fruit in fall. Makes a nice hedge or screen plant.
